Thin Places Band is a unique and creative blend of folk+modern+everything else. The term "thin places" is an ancient Celtic term that was later used by Celtic Christians to describe the veil between this world and the eternal world as being "tissue thin." If one felt the presence of God, they would say "this is a thin place." Thin Places Band writes a mix of vocal and instrumental songs to tell stories and parables and prayers that bring truth and grace.
In 2011, "Brendan" was released as a single. It tells a story of a Celtic monk getting out in a leather boat with some monk friends and leaving all that he knew to follow the voice of God in to the unknown. History says they traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to New Foundland. An old Celtic fisherman prayer resonates in the song, "The sea is so wide, and my boat is so small."
The song has a signature sound of acoustic counterpoint and vocal harmonies. Instruments include: hammer dulcimer, lap dulcimer, uilleann pipes, cello, violin, accordion, guitar, piano, bass and drums.
Marathon Man (Judah's Jig) is another original instrumental song that captures a modern sound with hammer dulcimer and full band a la Coldplay's "Life in Technicolor."
